2048 is a famous single-player sliding block-puzzle game developed by an Italian developer named Gabriele Cirulli. The game’s goal is to simply slide numbered tiles on a grid to combine them in order to create a tile with the number 2048. Players can, however, keep playing the game after reaching 2048 tile for them to generate tiles with larger numbers.
The game is played on a gray 4x4 grid along with numbered tiles that slide smoothly every time a player moves them. Every move, a new tile randomly appears in an empty spot on the game board either having a value of 2 or 4.
The tiles can slide as far as possible in a specific direction until they are stopped by the edge of the grid or by another tile. If ever two tiles having similar number collide while on the move, they will become one having a total value of the two tiles that collided. The resulting tile can’t merge anymore with a different tile in the same move. High scoring tiles will have a soft glow in them.
The scoreboard is located on the upper-right corner of the screen to keep track of the player’s score. The score will start at zero and will increase whenever two tiles collide, by the whole value of the new tile. Similar to other many arcade games out there, the best score can be located alongside the current score. If a player has no legal moves, the game will end.
