Heads Up is a party game promoted by a Hollywood celebrity and a talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, which works on the similar principle of acting like a fool for laughs. Ellen explains the rules of the game through in-game video.
After choosing a category, one player will hold the smartphone to his or her head with the screen facing outwards. The other player will give hints pertaining as to what the word on the screen indicates, and the first player will need to answer it correctly. Guessing the word correctly will earn them a point and needs to tilt the smartphone forward to move to the next question. If a player passes, the other player holding the smartphone can just tilt the phone backward in order to proceed to the next question without getting any point.
Heads Up has multiple categories to choose from such as animals, blockbuster movies, pop culture stars, music and many more. Every game only lasts a minute. Players then will take turns acting out answers and guessing them, and whoever earns the most points will be declared the winner.
There are also few rules that need to be followed every time a player acts out an answer. These include not using anything that can directly give out the answer, rhyming an actor’s name with a different one, or singing the lyrics. Optional challenges are also available like imitating other people and their accents and using gibberish instead of actual words.
