Sara is Missing or otherwise known as SIM is a cautionary story that tells people that they should not play or touch other people’s cellphone. Most especially if the phone is now broken and comes with a creepy AI.
The game features some factors that are usually found in some footage stories where instead of discovering random CD or VHS, players will instead find a defective phone. As players try to investigate more about the owner of the phone, they will, later on, realize that the phone that they found is more than it meets the eye.
SIM’s gameplay mostly revolves around looking through the messages of a girl named Sara Young. Sarah Young is the girl that is missing that players are supposed to find. The game’s interface just feels like a cellphone, having several screen elements that are usually found on every cellphone.
What makes the game more challenging is it limits the players browsing capabilities on finding out that the phone is already defective and almost all data on the phone is either corrupted or lost. Players will find themselves being forced to browse Sara’s phone, but the only thing they can do is to focus on finding her.
Kaigan Games also added the game’s creepiness factor by using both “phone camera” quality audio and video features in order to give players a more horrifying smartphone experience. The game also utilizes jumps scares and very dark or weird videos that are seen in horror movies like “The Ring.” Also, players are also provided with a short preview to who Sara is as they browse through her messages and how she interacts with other people.
To add to the game’s creepiness factor, Kaigan Games efficiently used both “phone camera” quality audio and video features to bring in a more harrowing smartphone experience. SIM also uses jump scares, and some dark/weird videos akin to what you see in scary movies like The Ring.
