Re-Logic is the team behind the development of this 2D action-adventure sandbox video game which was released for Microsoft back in 2011. Later on, it has been made available in other different platforms and devices. Over the years, this game had received positive feedbacks since it was launched. Just February this year, this game has already reached over 20 million copies sold across the available platforms.

Walkthrough

The players are free in setting their own goals towards the game by being a builder, explorer, fighter, collector, or whatever other possible characters can be acquired in the game.

Gameplay

Terraria revolves around exploration, building, and combat which is noted for its classic exploration-adventure style of gameplay. In this game, the players start with having only the basic tools, mainly a pickaxe for mining, a shortsword for combat, and an axe for woodcutting. Aside from the tools, players will also have a limited amount of health and magic points which they can later increase as they find some items while they are exploring.

In certain areas of the game’s map, some of the resources needed and most items can be found. Some are stored both common and rare containers and dropped by some of the enemies. The resources are usually used by the players to produce craft items and other equipment in the crafting station where it has the lists of requirements for a certain item. There are also advanced items which are made by multiple crafting operations.

Throughout the game, the player will have to face different enemies such as slimes, demon eyes, zombies, and various region-specific enemies. The occurrences of each of these enemies will only depend on the location, time, player interactions, and random events.

Players can defend themselves and fight back with guns, bows, swords, magic spells and other available weapons. The players may also face boss monsters in the game with different combat mechanics that can release some rare items, as well as a large in-game currency amount.

All bosses can show up by the use of certain items, destroying the blocks through the world, and when a certain idea is reached. Some of these bosses can spawn naturally depending on the certainty of time and location.

Building a Base

As the player has a pocket full of blocks, they can now start building their base which can take a single in-game day or more than an in-game week to be complete, depending on the player's desired base. While waiting for the majority of the base to be built, everything becomes advantageous and exciting as the players will be able to use large stores of blocks that end up gathering by-product of mining. Aside from building an own base, players should also make quarters or a place to stay for the Guide, Merchant, and Nurse, as well as a campfire, storage area and crafting area before progressing. Creating a layout that can be easily added onto later is also a wise idea as there will be more room needed as there will be more NPCs will be available.

The Bosses: Taking on the big three

After the players survived the first couple of nights and had started to work on building a base, they should now start preparing for the upcoming battles with the bosses as they will come looking for you.

Activating Hard mode

By defeating the Wall of Flesh, the hard mode will be enabled. Once the world is already in hard mode, there are no other ways in going back to the easy mode. In the hard mode world, it is pretty self-descriptive as those routine tasks in easy mode become hard and time-consuming. It is best for the players to complete any tasks and preparations before moving on to hard mode.

The three Mechanical Bosses

After the players have collected various hard mode resources, it’s time for them to do some preparations in bringing down the first three hard mode bosses with some items that the player has.

Tips & Tricks

Acquire Some Wood

As soon as the players start the game, they should be cutting down some trees and nabbing some wood with the use of the provided tools. The woods that the players get from chopping down some trees will be utilized in building a base. The first ten pieces of wood should be used in creating a workbench that allows the players to create a much sturdier item which also ends up as a big part of the player’s base.

Crafting Your Own Home

Players should use their given pickaxe to level out the ground and build a home with a background wall, two walls, ceiling, and a door for an easy in and out access. This base will keep the player safe from the enemies outside

Build Your First Home Close To The original Spawn Point

Until the players start making beds, they’ll always return to the same spawn spot when they die. Players should also watch out for their guide will wander about near the spawn point and carelessly open the doors to let the monsters inside their new house.

Slime Monsters to Create Torches

Every player’s base or shelter needs a source of light to use at night time. With the use of pickaxe, players can kill slime monsters and use the gel they produce when killed as a conjunction with wood to create torches and place it around the base.

Home Furnace

The furnace is an essential item in every player’s shelter. Players should need to obtain some stones to produce their own furnace. The stones needed are usually found on the surface of the ground. Players will need to use their pickaxe to bring them out and go back to the workbench once they have already collected 20 stone blocks which are the requirement in building a furnace that they can use in making copper and iron.

Get a lot of Iron

Iron will be one of the important targets for the players. This will help them upgrade their copper tools, making it a more powerful one. At some point, it may be hard for the players to identify iron from stones, but they should just take note that iron is a bit darker than stones with brown tint and sparkles when exposed to sunlight. In finding a richer iron ore vein, the player might need to dig a bit of an underground.

To use this iron in the furnace, players need to melt it and at the same time use the iron bars in making an anvil. This anvil then can be used to make a new sword and pickaxe.

Flail Weapons for Headshots

Flail weapons like a boomerang can hit multiple enemies as it can be thrown straight to the spot where the enemies are flocking. Players should use this weapon to attack as it can easily hit the heads of the various enemies in the vicinity and continue to hit more enemies when turning back.

Fend Off Zombies with Block Setup

The zombies in this game usually attack the base or shelter of the players, and it could be very annoying. Players then should also remember that zombie’s measurement is 2x3 blocks and should place some extra block on the floor close to the door for a step up above the oncoming zombie horde without getting touched. This additional block also let the players hack away at zombies

Trap Monsters during Goblin Invasion and Blood Moon

During these situations, it would be beneficial for the players to catch the monsters in a hole. To do this, players should dig to create a deep hole which is deeper than you can jump in depth with two blocks measured wideness. It is also advisable that the holes are covered with a roof, so the mobs heading towards the hole won’t jump over it and ends up inside the hole.

Destroy a Demon Altar

Destroying the demon altar is one of the important tasks that player should do throughout the game. Players should take note that the altar won’t be destroyed with just an ordinary hammer. They should pwn the hammer for it to work and break the altar.

Wearing Armor

This is not just the usual armor. If players wear armor made all out from the same materials, they will receive an extra bonus.

Life Crystals

To live and fight long in the game, players should have a stable amount of health to finish every attack and to protect the base. With life crystals, it can be used to increase the player’s health. This type of crystal can be found everywhere as it is hidden just around the world.

Use a Safe

In this game, the chest of a player can be looted by other players. If the player who owns that particular chest doesn’t trust other players, they can use a safe where they can store everything they have and use it exclusively.
